Anyone fractionally late arriving for Stannard’s bout would have missed all of the action as he stopped the previously unbeaten Martin Jones and extended his perfect start to his three-fight professional career

“Carl (Greaves - manager and trainer) said that I was hitting the pads hard during my warm-up, but I didn’t think I’d win in the way I did,” Stannard said.

“I caught Martin with my very first shot and I knew I’d got him, so I just let my hands go.”

Appearing on the Carl Greaves Promotions ‘Top Prospects’ show, in Nottingham, Stannard caught Jones with his first punch, which left the Welshman on the ropes.

Sensing victory he followed it up with multiple heavy shots before referee Kevin Parker jumped in to wave off the contest and save Jones from any further punishment as he hit

the canvas.

Jones required medical attention, but thankfully was able to rise to his feet and take polite applause from the crowd.

“I can’t believe what I’ve just seen,” Greaves said.

“That was an amazing first stoppage from Stanley.

“It’s unusual for two opponents to meet this early in their careers and for it to be all over in 10 seconds is just unbelievable.

“He hits hard in training and I felt he was hitting even harder tonight.

“I told him to go out there and make a statement and that’s what he’s done.

“As I’ve said before I’ve got really high hopes for him and he will be back out again on May 30 on a massive show in Leicester that I’m putting on for all my Midlands fighters.”

Stannard added: “I’m going to be moving up to six rounds after tonight on the Leicester show coming up and I’ll leave the rest up to Carl.

“I’d like to thank the massive support from my family and friends, Carl for all the work he puts in the gym with me, and the believing in me and all my sponsors.

“I’m buzzing and can’t wait for May 30 to do it all again.”
