Melton woman Michelle readies for her second London Marathon

The average person is usually content with having run one London Marathon but a determined Melton woman is set to embark on her second.

Michelle Farlow (27), of Kipling Drive, has decided to repeat her feat from 2015 and take part in the race again, having enjoyed pounding the streets of the capital last year.

Previously, Michelle ran her first marathon in aid of Dogs Trust and completed the race in a time of 4hrs 8mins. She would of course like to beat her time set last year, but she is planning on keeping up a steady pace, being more relaxed and appreciating her surroundings.

She said: “I loved training for and running the London Marathon so much last year I knew I wanted to do it again as soon as I finished. The atmosphere on race day is incredible.

“I would love to run it in under four hours but we’ll see. London is a very busy course so I’m just looking to enjoy it knowing it’s all for a good cause.

“My friends and family were surprised that I wanted to do it again but they’ve all been really supportive and have been helping with my fundraising.”

Michelle has been preparing hard for her 26.2-mile challenge on April 24, and has even incorporated a circuits class once a week into her training. She has to raise a minimum of £1,500, but hopes to beat last year’s figure of over £2,000.

Michelle will be taking part in a bag packing event at Melton’s Sainsbury’s store on Saturday to raise more funds. She also plans to organise a raffle and is hoping to start selling tickets at the start of April.

Michelle added: “The support and generosity of local businesses has been amazing. Prizes so far include cinema tickets from Regal Cinema, a sports massage from QR Massage Therapy, a bag of goodies from Jupes and vouchers from Sophie Elise – Beauty Boutique, Melton Sports and Gates Garden Centre. Stapleford Park has also donated a round of golf for four people, which I will be looking to auction.”

Local businesses wishing to donate a raffle prize or people wanting to buy raffle tickets can do by sending an email to [email protected]
