Melton banking chief 'deeply honoured' to receive industry honour
The boss of one of Melton Mowbray’s oldest businesses has been given a prestigious industry honour.
Simon Taylor, chief executive officer of the Melton Building Society, has been recognised for his leadership, integrity and commitment to professionalism in banking with the award of Honorary Fellow of the Chartered Banker Institute.

The fellowship is given to senior professionals who have made a meaningful contribution to the profession and who supports the Institute’s mission to promote ethical and responsible banking.
Simon joined Melton Building Society, which has its headquarters at Mutual House on the Leicester Road, in June 2020 as CEO and he has worked in financial services for over 30 years.
He has also been chair of the Building Societies Association since November 2025.
Simon said he was ‘deeply honoured’ to receive the award and commented: “To be recognised alongside individuals who have made such significant contributions to banking and financial services is a huge privilege.”
“During a career spanning more than 30 years, I’ve been passionate about the role financial services can play in improving people’s lives and supporting communities.
"While Fellowship is a great personal honour, it also reflects the many talented colleagues, mentors and teams I’ve had the privilege to work alongside, both past and present.
"It is a reminder of the values that have guided us throughout that journey: acting with integrity, professionalism and purpose to help build a stronger, more sustainable future for our sector.”
Tanya Retter, CEO of The Chartered Banker Institute, added: "Throughout his career, Simon has demonstrated a clear commitment to customers, colleagues and communities, while helping to strengthen a resilient, trusted and future-ready profession.”
