Visitors to Sunday’s event had been very generous over the school Easter holidays, sponsoring almost 2,000 ducks.

Ducks were released at 2pm and blue flares set off before the launch to define the wind direction for the finishing line.

Adrienne Holland, one of the organisers, said: “The start was excellently planned and it was a fair competitive race with most entrants within a few metres of leaders.

“It was an excellent day and a great turnout from visitors, our own club and members of Melton Aurora Rotary Club.

“The money raised, over £2,500, will be used for local charities supported by Rotary, but the main focus for this event has been to fund a wonderful KidsOut experience at Twinlakes for all the Birch Wood School children and their carers.”

First prize of £75 went to Charlie and Bethany Crawley, and Leigh O’Reilly, second prize of £50 went to Sarah Cherry and Hannah Bennett and third prize went to Louise Melillo and Haiza.
