It was a tough task away to a strong Wigston team so they were delighted to return with a share of the points.

First pair of skipper Mark Ashman and Craig Tracey collected two sets and lost out in a close tie break set and second pairing of Steve Thompson and David Owen also took two sets to guarantee a share of the points.

The Men’s National County Club League team travelled to Leicestershire TC and came away with the points with an 8-4 win.

Theo Young took his singles by a 6-0, 6-4 scoreline and Tom Ursell and Jimmi Cox added to this by taking their doubles by a 6-3, 6-2 score.

The home side fell foul of league rules and had to forfeit two matches which ensured an 8-4 win for Melton.

A depleted Men’s first team finished their league fixtures with a disappointing 8-1 defeat at Market Bosworth .

With players on holiday, illness, plus skipper Ryan Parmar on Wimbledon duty, the team were only able to field two pairs.

Teenagers Harrison Culpan and Zev Dewshi collected the club’s solitary win but overall they competed really well.

Second pairing of Ben Simpkin and Jake Beagle had a tough night and were unable to add to Melton’s score.

Despite this loss the team have generally had a solid season and skipper Ryan Parmar was more than pleased with their fourth place position with 56 points, six wins and only three defeats.

The Ladies second team finished their league season off with a super win over near neighbours Syston Northfields by a 7-2 score in Division Two.

First pairing of Danielle Wells and Beth Lowe were in super form taking their three sets, and second pairing of Sarah Medcalf and Aleksandra Collison and third pairing of Laura Fretwell and Jill Woods both chipped in with two wins apiece to round off a solid season.

After a tough start with unavailability and injuries hitting them, the team finished the second half of the season strongly and the team will finish in fourth position with six wins and three defeats which delighted skipper Carol Gilchrist.

There is no time for the players to relax with the Mixed Doubles leagues getting underway, and with three teams in contention the club courts will still be action packed with teams in Divisions 1A, 1B and 4B.

The captains will all hope that the club teams will keep up their bright summer with tennis that suited the weather with no captain more focused than first team joint skipper Charlie Griffin, who has made no secret of the fact that promotion back to the Premier Division is an absolute priority.

Charlie, with Ryan Parmar alongside, will be going all out for success along with other team captains, Giles Constant and Sarah Medcalf.

A huge bonus for the club are the excellent performances of teenagers Harrison Culpan, Zev Dewshi, Ben England and Tom Concarr who have all played brilliantly this season.
