Stoke Rochford golf: Dolby snatches sixth winter crown in 11 years

Stoke Rochford Golf Club's seniors' Winter Warmers series reached its climax last week when players competed in the 17th and final round.

Clear winner of the individual stableford was Alan Dolby with 40 points, three points ahead of Richard Leverett, while Mike Palmer was third with 36.

In winning the final round Dolby overtook long-time series leader Eddie Plant to become Winter Warmers champion for the sixth time in 11 years.

Alan totalled 42 series points to win by two points from Greg Ewart who pipped third-placed Eddie Plant also on 40, by virtue of a better last round card.

Brian White, 2015 champion was fourth overall with 38 points, his brother Phil White was fifth with 36, and past captain Mike Nixon was sixth, also with 36. Prizes were presented by seniors captain Graham Manton.

Brian Keightley won the Slack Goblet for the most single points, his 13 being one better than the chasing pack of Don Werner, Steve Major and Ernie Armstrong.

The Goblet and accompanying bottle of cognac were presented to Brian by its donor Roland Slack.

A total of 81 seniors played in the winter-long series.

* Graham Manton and Don Clements became Seniors Winter League champions when they beat Phil Hewes and Mike Palmer 3 and 2 in the play-off final.
