Twenty-strong relay teams vied to become the first to complete 100 laps of the Saffron Lane track.

The Melton runners came up against teams from Anstey, West End, Leicester, Huncote, Birstall, Desford, Beaumont Leys and Wigston.

The junior Stilton Striders have long dominated their age category thanks to good coaching, attitude and ability, but only two years ago the senior Striders struggled just to field a full team.

This year the rapid growth of the club was clear as they put out two complete teams as well as the juniors.

It was a fantastic night for the Striders as their senior A team took the overall honours in a new event record time of 2hr 04min 44secs, while the juniors finished in second place, exactly four minutes behind them.

The club’s second senior team also had a good night, finishing seventh out of the 12 teams in 2.20.02.

Over the evening, more than £1,200 was raised for the Loughborough-based Rainbows Hospice.
