More than £1M will be invested into Melton Mowbray over the next five years after traders voted overwhelmingly to renew Melton Business Improvement District (BID) for a fourth term.

A ballot was held on continuing Melton BID to November 30, 2031 to continue delivering an ambitious programme of investment, events, business support, marketing, and safety initiatives for the benefit of local businesses and the wider community.

And 93 per cent of responding business voted in favour to trigger an expected investment of almost £1.2M into Melton Mowbray over the next five years, building on the previous term, which saw more than £800,000 pumped back into the town alongside additional external funding.

Melton BID will now deliver the new BID Business Plan, building on the success of existing projects such as business recycling, grant schemes and the SMART radio & PubWatch initiatives, as well as also introducing brand new marketing projects and events.

James Colclough, manager of Melton BID said: “I would like to thank every business that participated in the ballot process and I’m looking forward to working with levy payers and town partners to deliver the ambitions set out in the business plan.”

The BID board commented: ”We are delighted that businesses have once again shown their confidence in Melton BID and the work we do.

"The campaign allowed many views and new ideas to be discussed, and with the positive result now in, we will work on behalf of all levy payers to deliver prosperity to the BID area.

"Most importantly, this vote ensures Melton Mowbray continues to have a strong, independent voice for businesses at a time of significant local government change.
