Mixed start for nomadic Hamilton Tennis Club teams

Hamilton Tennis Club's summer fixtures for 2016 have got off to a slow start while waiting for the new artificial grass courts to be laid.

Many matches have been played away from home with mixed results.

The mini red B team started their season with an excellent 14-2 win over Syston Northfields Seconds with four wins for Lucy Upton and Oliver Spencer and three wins each from Hannah Richardson and Thomas Townsend.

The green A team of Ben Greening, Adam Thornley, Jack Upton and George Smith won 10-2 against Desford.

Ben lost a very close singles match in a third set tie-break, but the team won all of their other matches.

* The under 16s girls’ team of Libby Duncan, Olivia Wilson, Abi Hickling and Beth Cavani won 8-4 against Gynsill with singles wins by Libby, Abi and Beth, and a doubles win by Abi and Beth.

* The orange A team of Luke Craven, Gus Hagger, Leah Adams and Rebecca Spencer lost 18-2 to Oadby A with one singles win for Leah.

The mini red A team of Jack Skailes, Frazer Jackson, Hugo Skailes and Tomas Rose lost 24-8 to Ashby with two wins by Jack and one each by Frazer and Hugo.

* At the other end of the age groups, the men’s over 60s squad of Doug Hacking, Graham Hall, Barrie Farnsworth, Steve Thompson, Dave Gildove, Selwyn Carter and Keith Galloway have also had mixed results.

They whitewashed Oadby Granville 8-0, but lost by the same score to Enderby, Leicester Forest East and Leicestershire.

* The men’s Aegon team of Justin Horobin, Ben Catlin, Jimmi Cox and Joe Jackson lost 5-1 to Stoney Stanton, with Joe winning his singles, and lost 6-0 to Loughborough University.
