Melton Times journalist up for national press award

Melton Times sports editor Chris Harby will be in the running for a national journalism prize next week.

Chris has been named on a shortlist of six for weekly sports journalist of the year at the UK Regional Press Awards, which take place on Friday, May 20.

He will be up against fellow sportswriters from the Coventry Observer, Stornoway Gazette, Newham Recorder, North Devon Journal and the Cumberland News.

Chris (42) has won the award for the last two years and been shortlisted five times in the last six years.

He submitted three features for this year’s entry, including an interview with Claire Lomas on her quest to become a motorcycle racer, and the rollercoaster career of aspiring professional footballer Jordan Forrester.

The ceremony will be held at the five-star Marriott Grosvenor Square Hotel in London.
