Melton Golf Club: Goddard and Cliffe pip rivals to Greenall Cup

The forecasted storms arrived later than expected at Melton Golf Club, allowing the majority of players in the Greenall Cup to complete their rounds.

The betterball stableford trophy was won by Jonathan Cliffe and Jevan Goddard with a tremendous score of 45 points.

They were only one clear of Steve Wright and Neil Eaves 44 points who took second spot on countback from Sam Pollard and David Poolan. Jon Baxter and Pete Poolan were fourth, also with a score of 44.

The two’s sweep was shared by Jake Mogg, James Parker, Tom Smith and Doug Woolley.

* Melton’s seniors section played a friendly match away at Humberstone Heights and came away with a creditable 5 and 3 win.

The winning partnerships were Eddie Cham and Dave Moss (4 and 2), Bob Luke with Ken Longbottom (1-up), David Wells and Bob Purkis (5 and 3), while the pairings of Jorge Schmidt and Gwilym Jones, and Gerry Stephens with Owen Cook both won 4 and 3.

* Melton’s junior section played their last trophy competition of the season, the Sam Weller Shield.

It was a high-scoring affair and was won by James Daulby with 43 points from Will Thompson (41pts) and Jake Mogg, in third, with 38 points.

The nine-hole competition for 29-plus handicap players was won by Jack Standeven with Louis Woodcock second and Ed Gough in third.
