Hamilton Tennis Club open day attracts three-figure turnout

Hamilton Tennis Club recently held a very successful open day as about 100 children and adults came to the Melton club to try their hand at tennis.

Great fun was had trying to hit backhands, forehands, volleys and serves in sessions supervised by coaches and assisted by club members.

Most found it not quite as easy as Andy Murray makes it look, but everyone had a go.

An obstacle course for the younger members was very popular with the fastest boy and girl being Jaden Fivaz and Phoebe Chalmers.

On the club league scene, Hamilton’s ladies’ first team won 6-3 against Leicestershire A.

Charlotte Griffin and Di Burdett took a maximum three sets, supported by two from Georgene Ashmore and Sibella Chew, and one from Amelia Coltman with Jess Gadsby.

* The men’s first team gained a narrow 5-4 win over Lutterworth 1.

Ryan Parmar and Tom Elliss led the team with three sets and were supported by Jack Elliss and Daniel Blackburn who won two, including the match-winning tie-break.

* The men’s third team defeated Oadby Granville 6-3 with a maximum three-set haul from Mike Crane and Jack Griffin.

There were also two from Doug Hacking and Andy Stevens, and one from Will Harrison with Nigel Crymble.

* The ladies’ veterans third team drew 4-4 with Charnwood Fourths with Christine Stanley and Hazel Crymble leading the team with three sets.

Davina Adams and Mary Corvin won the vital set for a draw.

* The ladies’ veterans first team fought back from 3-1 down to clinch a 4-4 draw with Gynsill.

Rosie Gildove and Jenny Golland won three sets, and Cindy Coulter and Lesley Greaves won the vital set for a draw.
