School sport: Bottesford footballers do the double

The Melton and Belvoir primary school sport competition year kicked off at Brooksby Melton College with the Year 5 and 6 girls' and boys' football tournaments.

Lots of fantastic football was on display throughout the events which were sponsored by Holwell Sports FC and Asfordby Amateurs Ladies, Girls and Inclusive FC.

Brooksby Melton students hosted and organised the competitions which attracted many spectators.

In the girls’ competition, Bottesford and Stathern fought their way through to the final where Bottesford won by the only goal of the game.

The Grove School, Melton, finished third, and fourth-placed Ab Kettleby win the Spirit of the Games award.

There was a dramatic finish to the boy’s final when Bottesford A scored the winner from a free-kick in the dying seconds of the game.

Beaten finalists The Grove had the consolation of picking up the Spirit of the Games award.

The third/fourth place play-off match also ended in drama as Frisby edged out Swallowdale A in a penalty shoot-out.

Old Dalby finished fifth ahead of Stathern, Bottesford B, Swallowdale B, Ab Kettleby and Bottesford C.
