South Notts Cricket League: Woodcock guides Old Dalby to victory

Old Dalby moved up to third in Division N with a tight away victory over Nottingham Deaf on Saturday.

The visitors won the toss and elected to field, restricting Nottingham Deaf to a slow start with tight bowling.

The batsmen proved difficult to dismiss as several catches were shelled, but a solid bowling performance from Tony Woodcock (6 for 26) saw the opposition dismissed for 143 in 42 overs.

After the break, Dalby’s innings began badly with the loss of openers Driver and Coulter with only 18 runs on the board.

David Greaves (38) and Joe Gant (42) then struck up a partnership until Greaves was bowled by Savage.

Lee Creedon then stepped up to try to see Dalby home, but was caught for 11 and it looked like Dalby would fall short for the second successive week.

The runs were slow in coming, but Nigel Walters (10) and Phil Greaves (13 not out) took the visitors close to the winning line before Woodcock’s boundary clinched victory in 43.2 overs.
