Egerton Park back in business at the top with first Premier Division win in 25 years
Egerton Park marked their return to Premier Division cricket after a 25-year absence in the most dramatic fashion possible, edging past Sileby Town by two wickets in a nerve-shredding finale at Egerton Park — with debutant Justin Beaton hitting the winning runs.
The occasion carried enormous weight for a club that has waited a quarter of a century to compete at the top table of Leicestershire and Rutland cricket, and they rose to it magnificently.

Winning the toss and electing to field, Park were immediately put under pressure as Sileby's openers made a confident start.
But the home bowlers regrouped with discipline.
Spinner Abhishek Machhi proved the standout performer with the ball, claiming 3-38 from 8.2 overs, while Will Creed (2-29), Carel Fourie (2-44) and Tom Glover (1-24) all contributed to restricting Sileby to a competitive but chaseable 237-9 from their 50 overs.
The reply was anything but straightforward.
Alexander Barber fell cheaply for four, but Vijal Vinay (33) and Mayur Chauhan (20) provided early stability before Tom Glover played a composed and vital knock of 42 in the middle order.
Mahir Manilal top-scored with a stylish 49, threatening to take the game away from Sileby before falling lbw to Henry Rogers, who claimed three wickets in total for the visitors.
At 195-7, the match seemed to be slipping away.
But this was the moment the script delivered its most memorable chapter.
Australian fast bowler Justin Beaton, recruited during the winter and making his competitive debut for the club, strode to the crease with 43 runs still needed and Park's tail exposed.
Unfazed by the occasion, Beaton played with remarkable composure, forging a crucial partnership with Will Creed (18) before seeing Park home with an unbeaten 24, hitting the winning runs off the penultimate over to spark jubilant celebrations.
It was the stuff of Hollywood — a new signing, in his very first game, delivering victory in Park's most significant match in a generation.
"We couldn't have dreamed of a better start," said skipper Tom Glover. Few would disagree.
With 25 points banked and the Premier Division dream very much alive, Egerton Park are back — and they mean business.
