Sculptor appeals for help to finish stunning goose piece
Award-winning sculptor Jo Walker has launched a crowd-funder to help finish a life-sized goose statue she thinks would be appropriate to be on public display in Melton Mowbray.
Jo, aka Sculptress JOEL, was commissioned to work on the piece but after months of toiling over it in her Leicestershire studio the client withdrew from the project due to unforeseen circumstances.

Rather than abandoning the sculpture, she wants funding support to get it finished by creating a professional mould and casting the piece.
The goose is now being worked on in clay, where JOEL is refining the character, proportions and details before the sculpture can progress towards its final form in bronze.

She says the perfect place for its display would be at Melton Mowbray Cattle Market, to commemorate the town’s long association with fur and feather auctions.
The sculpture could give market visitors a striking piece of public art to connect to the site’s rich history, suggest Jo, who specialises in detailed animal sculpture and bronze statues.
“This goose has already had quite an adventure just getting to the studio,” she said.
“I would love to see it given a future where it can become something that people can enjoy and where it can help tell a story about our local heritage.”
The unfinished sculpture has already caused quite a stir when it was strapped to the back of Jo’s truck as she drover through the countryside.
Donations of all sizes are welcome and supporters could ultimately help determine where this unusual piece of Leicestershire sculpture finds its permanent home.
