RSPCA to seek new animal foster carers at Melton Mowbray event
A special event is being held in Melton Mowbray to recruit more foster carers for animals being looked after by the local RSPCA centre.
St Mary’s Place, on Burton Street, is hosting the session on Saturday September 26 on behalf of the Leicester-based Woodside animal centre, which supports animals across Leicestershire, Rutland and Peterborough.

It is an information event aiming to increase the network of local foster carers, who can provide temporary homes for cats and dogs who may benefit from being away from the busy centre environment.
There are many reasons people choose to foster. Some may love animals but aren't able to make the long-term commitment of adopting, while others simply want to use a spare room, a little extra time or their experience with cats or dogs to make a difference.
Fostering can also make an enormous difference to the animals themselves – a home environment can be particularly valuable for animals who find kennel or cattery life difficult, those recovering from treatment, young animals or those who simply need some extra individual care and attention.
Laura Cosbie, animal journey team leader at RSPCA Woodside, said: “We know there are lots of animal lovers in Melton, and we’d love to introduce more people to fostering.
“You don't need to come along already knowing that fostering is right for you.
"The idea is simply to have a chat with our team, find out how it works, what support we provide and the different types of dogs who may need foster homes.
"For the right animal, a foster home can make such a difference.
"It gives them the chance to experience life in a home while we get to know them even better and work towards finding their permanent family."
The foster care information session will run from 10am to noon – call 0116 2336677 to reserve a place.
RSPCA Woodside will also be holding a Pet First Aid & Wellbeing Workshop at the same Melton venue later the same day, from 2.30pm to 4.30pm.
Led by the centre’s head veterinary nurse, the session will give cat and dog owners, animal lovers and people who work with pets practical advice and skills that could help them respond confidently in an emergency and may even help save a pet’s life.
On holding the two events in the town, Laura added: "We also want people in Melton to know that Woodside is their local RSPCA centre.
"As a self-funded centre, we rely on the support of our local community to continue caring for animals in need.
"We support cats, dogs and communities across Leicestershire, Rutland and Peterborough, and we’d really like to strengthen those links and get to know more of the people who support animal welfare locally.”
As a busy, self-funded animal centre, Woodside cares for hundreds of cats and dogs every year, helping them recover and ultimately find their new homes.
It relies on donations, fundraising and the generosity of our supporters to continue this vital work.
