Friends raise £100k for hospice with gruelling runs around Leicester City FC stadium

Three friends have raised £100k for the LOROS Leicestershire hospice by taking on a gruelling annual fundraising challenge for the last five years.

Rob Owen, from Thurmaston and pals Jake and Dan, ran 120km around Leicester City FC’s King Power Stadium each year to generate funds a charity close to their hearts.

The money they raised could cover the costs of LOROS’s day hospice for six months.

Rob said: “It was an idea born out of lockdown. I remember someone said that it was impossible to do – so I knew we had to prove we could do it. We had no real expectation of raising that much money but we thought we could raise a few grand. It’s brilliant – such an achievement.”

Jake added: “When my aunt and uncle were on the ward in 2022, I was a regular visitor to the hospice.

"The care and compassion they received made me want to give something back.”

The three have clocked up 600km each as a result of their fundraising.

Camilla Barrow, the LOROS CEO said: “We’ve made no secret of the financial challenges that we’ve faced over the past year, and how reliant we are on our amazing supporters to keep our services open.

"Rob, Dan and Jake have been just incredible in their commitment to the hospice, and I’d like to say a most enormous thank you to them all.

“To put it in context, their support has paid for our day hospice to stay open for six months.

“It’s quite simply vital. They should be extremely proud of their achievements.”
