Residents urged to check waste site opening hours over festive period

Residents in the Melton borough are being advised about changes to opening hours of local recycling and household waste sites over the festive period.

The town site on Lake Terrace and the Bottesford one on Normanton Lane will be closed on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, in addition to their normal closure days.

The days following Boxing Day and into the New Year can be extremely busy at all sites, so potential site visitors are urged to bear this in mind before setting out.

Leicestershire County Council operates the local waste sites along with 11 others in the county.

Councillor Adam Tilbury, cabinet member for environment and waste, said: “The festive season is one of our busiest times at the waste sites, and we’re working hard to keep everything running smoothly, with no changes to opening hours other than the usual seasonal closures.

“If you’re planning to visit one of our waste sites, please check our website or social media for the latest updates before you set off.

“If things are a little busy when you arrive, thank you for your patience – your good cheer helps make the season brighter for everyone.”

Go to www.leicestershire.gov.uk/waste for more information about what can be taken to the waste sites, opening times and to find the nearest site.

The web page www.lesswaste.org.uk is offering festive tips for reducing, reusing and recycling.

Lake Terrace tip opening times will go back to normal in the new year – 9am to 4pm from Monday to Wednesday and the same hours Saturday and Sunday.
