Police seize electric scooters in Melton Mowbray after complaints from residents
Police have tonight (Wednesday) seized electric scooters in Melton Mowbray after complaints from local people about them being ridden fast and loudly through the town centre.
Officers were acting as part of Operation Pedal Fast, which is a dedicated policing operation aimed at tackling the illegal use of e-scooters and e-bikes, as well as addressing anti-social behaviour linked to cyclists.

The strategy includes taking enforcement action where necessary, including the use of Section 59 seizures of vehicles being used in a manner which is considered to cause alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public.
This evening police have seized three electric scooters and an electric bike and have pledged to keep the pressure on riders who cause a nuisance and disturbance in the town.
Pc Lucy Baxter, a neighbourhood beat officer for the Melton Town Centre area, posted on the force website: “This evening, officers from neighbouring beats, the Neighbourhood Priority Team and the Safer Streets Team came together to carry out Operation Pedal Fast in Melton town centre.
“We've received concerns from residents about electric scooters and electric bikes being ridden at excessive speeds through the town centre, creating safety concerns for pedestrians and causing anti-social behaviour.”
On the action taken tonight to impound scooters and a bike, she added: “A number of people (have been) engaged with and educated about the law and safe use of bikes and scooters
“While these numbers may seem small, this is just the beginning.
"We will continue carrying out Operation Pedal Fast in Melton town centre to address the concerns raised by our community.”
