Melton shop to host pie-eating contest and piano night

A big cash prize is up for grabs next month when a Melton Mowbray bakery runs its second pie-eating contest.

Brockleby's Pie Shop, which opened their new outlet in Church Street in October, is running the competition on Saturday March 7, from 11am to 4pm.

It costs £5 to enter and participants get to scoff one of the company’s acclaimed pies as quickly as they can – the winner will claim the £300 first prize.

Lauren Tesseyman, events coordinator with Brockleby’s, said: “We are having this Pie Eating Competition as part of British Pie Week and we would like to get as many people taking part as we can.”

This is the second pie-eating contest organised by the company following on from the successful one they hosted at the grand opening of the shop.

Andrew Vaughan scooped the £300 prize back then when he wolfed down one of Brockleby’s Northerner Pies in just 80 seconds.

The shop is also preparing to host its first Piano Night event next week, featuring talented local young pianist, Thomas Corden.

It is free admission to the concert, which is on Friday February 27, with the evening running from 6pm until 9pm.

Lauren said: “This is the first Piano Night we will be having here since the shop opened and it will be a regular thing going forward – we will do them on the last Friday of the month.”

Thomas commented: “I'm currently practicing lots of songs on the piano ready for the upcoming Piano Night.”

Brockleby’s will be serving food and drink throughout the show.
