Long Field students praise their teachers on GCSE results day
Students were full of praise for their teachers when they picked up their GCSE results this morning (Thursday) at Long Field Spencer Academy.
Many parents attended the Melton Mowbray school with their children to celebrate with them or offer support if the grades weren’t what they hoped for.

Harley Brewin was delighted to get nine passes and he is now looking forward to moving up to Melton Vale Sixth Form College (MV16) where he will study a BTec in engineering, photography and PE.
He told the Melton Times: “The best thing about Long Field is the support from all the teachers - they care about you like you’re one of the family.”

Olivia Stafford attained a top grade nine in maths and further maths plus eight grades in five subjects – she is also off to MV16, to study economics, further maths and psychology, with a finance university degree possibly after
“The teachers are the best thing about being at Long Field,” said Olivia, who was accompanied on results day by parents Robert and Katie, plus sister Charlotte.
Emily Porter burst into tears of joy when she saw that she had passed all of her GCSE courses.
She is now heading to Brooksby College to study animal care and is aiming for a career in veterinary nursing.

Emily commented: “I didn’t sleep much last night - I just played games to relax my mind.”
And mum Vicky Hastings added: “I’m super duper proud of Emily - she worked really hard for these results.”
Playing sport at a good level helped Ben Newbery achieve impressive grades – a nine in maths and 8s in further maths, PE and English language.
Ben, who plays for Syston RFC, is now off to do A-levels at Loughborough College which also joining the ACE Academy, which is linked to Leicester Tigers.

“I would like to play professional rugby,” Ben told the Melton Times.
“I think playing sport gives you a base level of work ethic which then helps you when you are studying.”
Sofia Piecak was very pleased with her results, with lots of nine and eight grades – she is off to MV16 next.
“I like the trips they organise here. The environment is very good for learning,” Sofia said.

Opening her results envelope was also a pleasant experience for Sophie Wardle-Millar as she got a nine in English and eights in history and religious studies.
Sophie, who will next study history, English and sociology next at MV16, said: “I like the police as a career but I’ve not decided yet.”
Holly Payne is also off to MV16, to take biology, chemistry and computer science A-levels, and hopes to have a career in the pharmaceutical industry.
Principal, Chris Haggett, said of Holly: "She worked so hard at Sparx Maths that they had to write more questions as she had done them all. We are so proud of her.”
Overall for the school, Mr Haggett commented: “Good results again and very similar to last year.”
The government has this year launched an app to enable students to get their GCSE results delivered to their mobile phones but Mr Haggett said: “We haven’t used the new app because we like students to come into school and have that interaction with teachers when they get their grades.”
