Two Loughborough teachers raise over £1,000 for local charity, Menphys

In Loughborough High School’s 175th year, two members of staff from the Loughborough Schools Foundation took part in the Run Leicester Half Marathon on Sunday 26 October in support of Menphys. Together, the High School’s Assistant Head, Mrs Donna Tolley, and Loughborough Grammar School’s Reprographics Lead, Teacher and Charities Co-Ordinator, Mr Jacob Locke, raised over £1,000 for Menphys.
The local charity aims to create a future full of equal choices and opportunities for disabled children, young people and their families, empowering them to live as ordinary lives as possible.
In celebration of Loughborough High School’s 175th birthday, the School has set a ‘175 Challenge’ which encourages all staff and pupils to raise £175 for Menphys. Both Donna and Jacob layered an additional challenge on to this by aiming to raise double this amount, with both exceeding this goal by a huge margin.
Prior to the run, Donna said: “Menphys is a fantastic charity supporting young people with disabilities and their families. Every donation – however big or small – will be massively appreciated and will definitely spur me on when my legs start to protest!” Donna’s training and perseverance paid off; she completed the route in a time of 02:34.
Jacob, who completed the 13.1-mile course in a fantastic time of 02:08, said: “I’m grateful for the generosity shown by our Foundation community, friends and family. I was surprised to have raised so much, and their support kept me motivated throughout the run."
The £1,000 total raised for Menphys will make a positive impact upon the local community whilst also inspiring pupils and staff at Loughborough Schools Foundation to continue their fundraising efforts during the High School’s 175th year.
