Melton Mowbray Apple Day

Summer has certainly arrived with a bang and we are all now spending more time outdoors and enjoying our gardens. Perhaps you’re noticing that your apple trees are starting to fill and wondering what you are going to do with all the fruit that you usually never seem to get round to eating. WRAP, the Waste and Resources Action Programme, estimate that we throw away 4.4 million apples a day in the UK.

Make this the year that you help bring that number down and do something positive with your fruit. Melton Mowbray Apple Day, run by Melton Green Transition in association with Melton BID, is happening this year between 11-4 on Saturday September 26 at Melton Country Park. Start picking your apples a few weeks before so they soften off and bring them along on the day. We will have a number of presses running to turn your haul into the sweetest and tastiest juice you can imagine.

There will also be entertainment in the form of morris dancing, folk music and kids activities and we have local businesses and charities attending too as well as food stalls. Sunny Skies cafe will also be open for snacks and drinks. Homemade apple-related products will be available for purchase and we can even help you identify your apples.

It promises to be a fun day out for all the family, so come and help lend a hand manning a press or just enjoy the day.

Lastly do please bring a bottle or two to take your precious juice home in - see you there.
