The youngsters, many on their first visit to the club alongside juniors who are already members, threw themselves into the multitude of games and tasks with an unwavering degree of energy that continued throughout the four day event.

Tennis tasks, Unihoc, five a side football, non stop cricket, giant stick on dart board game and the so popular dodge ball game kept the youngsters on the move throughout.

Head coach Di Burdett , coach Ryan Parmar and their senior  teenage helper Alfie Smith, were once again delighted with the success of the week and not only the energy of the youngsters but of their overall behaviour with older juniors looking after younger team mates, a vital part of the club’s ethos.

Meanwhile on the club front, the Saturday Adult group sessions keep going from strength to strength with numbers increasing weekly under the watchful eye of the evergreen club coach Brent Horobin.

This year as seen a change in format from the past few years with a new team system introduced thanks to the input of ‘Mastermind’ Neil Ingle.

Normally teams have been selected and competed throughout the year but the new system only lists the captains, this year Joe Cunningham and Neil Ingle, and the remainder of their teams selected by the coach are unknown to each of them, hence they are playing ‘blind’.

This means that on any week they could be playing with or against their team members but their individual scores are recorded each week.

Once again and amazingly the teams are, after four months, separated by just two points with everything to play for going into the final winter period to the finishing line at Christmas and Brent is in no doubt that the final countdown will be as close as others years.

Club coach and Men’s first team captain Ryan Parmar recently held a Open Sunday for beginners, those who have not played for a while or rusty racket players and is delighted that the club were able to start up a new group on Saturday afternoons which is going from strength to strength.

The weather over the summer period has proved a bonus and the club have been busy off the courts with the major project being the building of a new much needed, on site toilet block by Jack Griffin Construction Company which includes an accessible toilet also.

This will mean that the juniors and seniors members and visitors alike can access toilets without having to cross two roads at the Sports Village.

Chairman Justin Horobin, vice chairman Peter Lovegrove along with Di Burdett have been working towards this project which is now reaching a completion date in the very near future.
