The group, which meets at Waltham village hall, is preparing to begin their new season next month and it hopes the taster session will attract new members.

John Aitken, from the group, told the Melton Times: “It’s great exercise for the body – certainly more fun than the gym – and amazingly good for giving your mind a challenging workout.

“The music is wonderful, you meet new people and you do not need a partner for this type of dancing, so what have you got to lose?

“Many who come for the first time wonder why they have never tried it before.”

The Bingham session costs £4 to attend and this includes tea or coffee and a chocolate biscuit during the interval – participants just need to wear soft-soled shoes and they don’t need a kilt.

If you are interested in going along, it would be helpful to let Audrey know by calling her on 07753 277551.

There are now local Scottish country dancing groups based at Grantham u3a, Newark, Nottingham and Leicester, as well as Waltham.

The first Waltham class is on Thursday September 3, when beginners will start together – it will be in the village hall at 7.30pm.
