Residents given advanced warning of temporary closure of Melton Mowbray waste site

Residents are being given advanced notice that Melton Mowbray’s household waste and recycling site will be temporarily closed during winter.

No date has yet been scheduled for when the Lake Terrace tip will be out of action but Melton people are likely to be directed to use the only other borough waste site at Bottesford during the closure period.

Leicestershire County Council is planning major improvement works at four of its tips

Leicestershire County Council say three of its tips need to be closed to allow essential improvement works to be carried out, with Mountsorrel first on the list, from Tuesday October 27 to early December.

Melton Mowbray and Kibworth sites will follow but County Hall has not specified a date for when improvement works will be carried out to each of them.

Announcing the planned works, Councillor Adam Tilbury, cabinet member for environment and waste for the county council, said: “These essential improvements will ensure our recycling and household waste sites remain safe, accessible, and fit for purpose now and into the future.

“While we apologise for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closures, the works are necessary investments.

"I thank residents for their understanding and encourage them to use their nearest alternative site during the works.”

In August, the Bottesford tip was temporarily closed for two weeks, along with three other tips, as part of a move to ease pressure on county sites during a period of unprecedented demand and a shortage of drivers available to clear containers.
