Paul Warrington, who plies his trade at Melton Indoor Bowls Club, was one of 49 bowlers from around the country chosen by national governing body, the EIBA, to try out for the England Under 18s squad.

He was put in at number three in a four-strong rink at which won both of their matches against fellow triallists.

Paul did not make the elite 10-strong team for the Home Internationals in Aberdeen, but has plenty of time for further opportunities.

The achievement capped an excellent year for the youngster who defended his junior title at Melton and also won the club’s Pegasus Cup for outstanding contribution by a junior bowler.

Paul has played in the adult leagues for the last 18 months at Melton and represents the club in senior friendlies and league games.

He has also entered national competitions at under 15s and under 18s, and reached the regional final last year,

Paul is also keen to help out off the green, working for his club at the national finals in April, and is now working towards his silver youth award with the EIBA having earned the bronze.
