Hamilton Tennis Club had some wins to savour this week after their previous run of defeats.

The under 16s boys’ team of Oliver Aley, Daniel Belcher, Tom Dryell and Sam Dryell beat Grangewood 5-1 with singles wins from Oliver, Dan and Sam and two doubles wins.

* The men’s Aegon team of Justin Horobin, Ben Catlin, Jimmi Cox and Joe Jackson beat Westfields by the narrowest of margins.

Jimmi and Joe both won their singles, while Justin and Ben lost theirs on third set tie-breaks. The doubles went the same way with Jimmi and Joe winning, and Justin and Ben losing on a third set tie-break.

Hamilton edged the deciding tie-break shoot-out to clinch the match 7-6.

* The men’s second team beat Victoria 6-3 in a very close match.

Justin Horobin with Alex Lunn led the way with a maximum three sets, while Ben Catlin and Oliver Aley added two, and Jimmi Cox with Joe Jackson won the other.

* There was a convincing 8-1 win for the men’s fourth team against County Hall with maximum three sets each from Mike Crane and Graham Hall, and Will Harrison with Tom Dryell. Barrie Farnsworth and Bruce Smith won two.

* The men’s fifth team won 6-3 against Hinckley Fourths thanks chiefly to three sets from Selwyn Carter and Graham Hall, and two from Craig Tracey with Joe Cunningham.

* The men’s third team also lost 6-3 to David Lloyd Thirds with Mike Crane and Andy Stevens winning two sets and losing a tie-break, and Andy Douglas and Doug Hacking winning the other.

* The ladies’ fourth team went down to a 7-2 defeat against Rothley Thirds on a wet night, Hazel Crymble and Margaret Roskell winning the two sets for Hamilton.

Danny Kettle won a singles match and teamed up with Jack Upton to win a doubles point, both on a tie-break third set.
