Brown strike earns Asfordby girls fine draw with Oadby

Without a game since the beginning of December, Asfordby faced their bogey team, second-placed Oadby, and came away with a well-deserved draw.

Asfordby started the brighter, with Sarah Anderson showing both creativity and hard work, but Rovers took the lead with a long-range shot.

The girls remained positive, playing their passing game, and a perfectly-weighted ball forward from Charli Mellors led to an excellent finish from Sarah Brown.

Although the visitors had more of the game in the second half, Amateurs battled and worked defensively as a team to keep the scores level.

Keeper Izzy Harrison confidently dealt with everything that came her way, while Bethan Saffhill had Rovers’ strikers in her pocket.

Emily Morrison gave another outstanding performance in midfield, and Mia Atherley supported both the forwards and defence in her best game of the season so far.

Overall a fine team effort to give the girls confidence for the rest of the season.
