Syston Town edge past Barrowby in Golding Plate final

In the GMCA's junior final, Syston Town took home the Golding Shield Plate in a low-scoring match at Barrowby.

The hosts won the toss and had Syston in trouble after asking them to bat first.

Opener Henry Whait made 19, but Sam Jepson (3 for 27) removed the rest of the top order cheaply.

The visitors were indebted to George Corbett, coming in at six, almost single-handedly helping Syston to a defendable target with a knock of 93,

The extras column (15) was the only other double-figure score as the visitors were bowled out for 148 in the 35th over.

Syston’s two contributors with the bat then starred with the ball as Whait (4 for 9) removed three of Barrowby’s top five for ducks to put the skids under the reply.

Captain Jepson led the lower order fightback with a valiant 42, while number eight batsman Steve Creasey (31) and Jamie Watson (16 not out) took Barrowby close.
