Vale of Belvoir teacher Christina Saccoh has been such a hit with her The Tutor Boss business that she has already been heralded by internet giant Amazon as an inspirational example for others.

The former headteacher from Bingham opted to focus on her business during the first lockdown and quickly found a following from parents anxious that their children should not fall behind during school closures.

She said: “Lockdown meant schools and colleges suddenly closed and many parents and students, particularly those sitting A Levels and GCSEs this year and next, were left wondering, some even panicking, how on earth they were going to continue with their studies?

“Even though schools were sending work through it wasn’t the same quantity and quality across the board.

“So I turned my weekly classes online using Zoom and Facebook Live.

“From then on, and again by word of mouth this time, particularly from many of my students, pupil count increased dramatically and I’ve literally not looked back.”

To grow the business, Christina, who as a successful teacher specialised in English and special educational needs and originally set up her business several years ago during illness, has embarked on online learning though Amazon’s small business e-learner programme, and is harnessing social media to reach more people.

She said: “Last month, I took the plunge and quit my full-time teaching job to concentrate and develop The Tutor Boss.”

Christina, who was invited to help the work of one of Prince Harry’s Nottingham projects for young people, has also added maths, history, business studies, biology, PE and BTEC Level sport and sport science to her offering.
