Moving scenes as Trevor Vernon is carried past Tubes Nightclub one last time
People stood on King Street and St Mary’s Way to pay their last respects to Tubes Nightclub founder, Trevor Vernon, as his funeral cortege passed slowly by the Melton Mowbray nightspot.
A private funeral service was held for family and friends but other mourners were able to watch as a hearse carrying his coffin took him past his beloved Tubes one last time, on Thursday (September 3).

Friends and colleagues are invited to join family at a special memorial to Trevor at the Royal British Legion club, at Thorpe End, from 4pm on Friday September 18.
Readers have been sharing their memories of going to Tubes, which was launched back in 1983 and which continues to be a family business under the management of Trevor’s daughter, Tracey.
Dale Knight posted: “When I was in my twenties I used to go every Thursday night. Days when you could smoke on the dance floor.”
Samantha Taylor recalled: “Thursday night, Tubes night, free entrance and then sit in the college refectory the next day with hangovers drinking hot chocolate. They were the days.”
Jane Stuwert said: “My brother worked on the doors there years ago. He met a lady who was on a night out and they went on to marry.”
James Nielsen commented: “Might be a lot older but can't have a weekend in ‘Pork Pie City’, as we call it, without going to Tubes. Still have my Tubes t-shirt somewhere I won in 1993.”
Kate Hebb posted: “RIP Trevor, I did Josie Vernon’s hair for years and never ever paid to get in Tubes.”
