Families left disappointed by late cancellation of Melton park film double bill

Families were left disappointed by the late cancellation of a scheduled big screen film double bill in Play Close Park.

Melton Mowbray Town Estate said ‘escalating third-party supplier issues’ were to blame for the decision, which meant last Friday’s planned screening of The Minecraft Movie and Toy Story 5 did not take place.

The movies were due to be shown on the big screen between 3pm and 8pm.

Dean Rees, CEO of the Melton Mowbray Town Estate, which organises the film events, said: "We are deeply disappointed to have to cancel the Cinema Night.

"Unfortunately, persistent supplier issues left us with no alternative.

"We offer our unreserved apologies to the families and community members who were looking forward to attending.”

This is the latest issue the Town Estate has faced with events in Play Close Park, with a country music festival being cancelled earlier this summer and screening of World Cup football matches disrupted after vandals disconnected the power supply to the Events Village infrastructure.

A new generator has since been provided, which enabled Melton Ska Fest to go ahead with a good turnout, although there were some technical issues affecting the sound and lighting.

There has been disruption with some of the music events as well with the Town Estate deciding to switch the day and location of the Reggae Pon De Park event to this coming Sunday in the Bandstand.

Mr Rees said: “Our focus now is ensuring Reggae Pon De Park runs smoothly at its new Bandstand location."

Anyone requiring a refund on events is asked to go to the Town Estate office in Park Lane.
