University Hospitals of Leicester NHS Trust (UHL) revealed the information, which relates only to people from Leicestershire admitted to county hospitals, and does not include those who passed away with the virus in county care homes and in the local community.

A UHL spokesperson said: “Sadly, we can confirm that 106 patients being cared for at our hospitals, and who had tested positive for COVID-19, have died.

“Ten of those deaths were announced on Sunday.
