Oscar, who is a previous winner of the Child of Courage award in the Melton Times Community Awards, was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia in the summer of 2013.

He received treatment at Sheffield Children’s Hospital which was where he had a successful bone marrow transplant in 2014.

And he was recently back at the hospital to ring the bell three times to signify the end of his treatment.

Oscar and his family, from Asfordby, will soon be heading on an amazing two-week holiday to Florida, courtesy of the charity When You Wish Upon A Star which has a luxury villa there. The charity’s simple mission is to grant the wishes of children living with a life-threatening illness.

Since 1990 the charity has proudly granted over 16,000 wishes across the UK, with people’s donations and fundraising helping to make their dreams come true.

Oscar’s dad, Ryan, said: “We were all so happy to see Oscar ring the hospital’s treatment bell and to see him with a smile on his face.

“It’s like a weight has been lifted off our shoulders now they’re not looking for him to relapse from cancer. He’s now as normal as any kid on the street.

“He’ll still have his bloods checked every six months and checks on his heart, liver and kidneys to make sure everything’s normal.”

Ryan said Oscar was ‘buzzing’ with excitement about their Florida holiday, especially the prospect of seeing Lightning McQueen - the stock car character in the animated Disney Pixar film series ‘Cars’.

A spokeswoman for When You Wish Upon A Star said: “While he was on treatment it was Oscar’s number one wish to go to Florida. We hope they all have an amazing time.”
