Flag flying ceremony to be held to honour our armed forces
Service personnel, military organisations and dignitaries will gather next week in Melton Mowbray for a flag flying ceremony to mark the nation’s National Forces Day.
The annual event – aimed at honouring those who have served and continue to serve – will take place once again outside Melton Borough Council’s offices in Parkside, on Monday June 22.

Military organisations, including the town branches of the Royal British Legion and Royal Air Force Association, local branches of the armed forces and the Defence Animal Training Regiment will be represented on the day, with WO1 RSM Tanya Davis taking the lead in the parade.
Guests will be formally welcomed by the new Mayor of Melton, Councillor Jim Adcock, followed by a short service and blessing of the flag by the Reverend Father John St John.
The Mayor, Councillor Jim Adcock said: "This occasion gives us an important opportunity to reflect on the courage, dedication, and sacrifice of the men and women who serve, and have served, in the Armed Forces.
"Their commitment to protecting our freedoms and upholding our values deserves our deepest respect and gratitude.”
Proceedings will start at 10:50am and members of the public are warmly invited to attend and show their support for the men and women who make up the Armed Forces community from currently serving troops to service families, veterans and cadets. The flag will be raised at 11am by Sgt Whyte MBE.
The flag will be flown throughout the week to show support for Armed Forces Day which falls on June 27.
