Football fans urged to behave after glasses smashed and beer thrown in Melton pub
Football fans have been urged by one Melton Mowbray pub to act more responsibly after glasses were smashed and beer thrown over patrons during England’s epic World Cup victory over Mexico in the early hours of this morning (Monday).
The Harboro Hotel, in Burton Street, was packed to the rafters as people gathered to watch big screens and cheer on Thomas Tuchel’s men in the crucial round of 16 clash, which kicked off at 2am.

Most people behaved well with beer sales flowing well after the government relaxed licensing laws and allowed pubs to stay open until 5am.
The hotel thanked those who were there for creating an ‘electric’ atmosphere but they called on some drinkers to moderate their behaviour on Saturday, when it will screen the quarter-final tie against Norway, which starts at 10pm.

It posted on its Facebook page: “We’re all for celebrating every England goal and creating an unforgettable atmosphere, but we were disappointed by the number of smashed glasses, drinks being thrown over people and onto the ceiling, and people being lifted into the air.
"Not only does this create a huge amount of unnecessary mess, but it also poses a serious health and safety risk, especially when the floor becomes soaked with alcohol.”
The Harboro Hotel says it expects even more people to watch Saturday’s match.
“Broken glass is extremely dangerous, and with the number of people expected to join us on Saturday, we do not want to be dealing with unnecessary injuries,” the hotel posted.
“We’d much rather our staff be serving you drinks and ensuring everyone has a fantastic night than clearing up avoidable mess or responding to incidents."
The Cutting Room, on St Mary’s Way, also screened the game this morning and will also be showing the Norway match, with bookings being taken for tables.
They posted on their Facebook page: “Wow… what a game last night – the atmosphere was awesome from start to finish.”
Melton Town FC’s Pitchside Lounge was also buzzing as Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane scored the goals in a 3-2 win.
"A huge thank you to everyone who joined us earlier to see England defeat Mexico – what a morning!” the club posted.
The club will be open from 8pm for Saturday’s match.
