Residents at Melton care home help raise nearly £1k for town foodbank

Residents and staff at Melton Mowbray care home have raised hundreds of pounds for the town’s foodbank at a family fun day.

Wilton Manor Luxury Care Home, which is on Leicester Road, organised the event to support Storehouse, the Nottingham Street service which helps homeless and disadvantaged people.

Among the activities, which generated an impressive £901, were a barbecue, live singing, a magician, face painting, arts and crafts stalls, a tombola and a raffle.

One of the afternoon’s highlights was a special visit from local para-swimmer Andy Banks, who brought along his 2012 Olympic torch for residents and guests to see and hold.

The fun day was made possible with the generous support of a number of local businesses, who donated prizes for the raffle, including Baubles and Bangles, Yum Yum Shop, The Creative Collective, The Glass Pantry, Time Out Café, The Melton Cheeseboard and a local florist.

Louise, customer support and lifestyle lead at Wilton Manor, said: “We would like to thank everybody who contributed to making this such a special day.

"It was wonderful to see how much everyone enjoyed themselves.”

And home manager, Helen Cooke, added: “It was an amazing, wholesome family and friends day and we are so thankful for all the community support.”

Wilton Manor previously supported Melton Storehouse – which provides a free community café, foodbank and warm space for local people during the winter months – through a Harvest Festival collection last autumn.

Following the collection, several residents visited the Storehouse and were impressed by the work being carried out to support people in the local community.

Having experienced the warm welcome from the charity first-hand, residents and the team at Wilton Manor were keen to continue their support with the fun day.

On the latest fundraising event, Natalie Stathakis from Melton Storehouse commented: “What a lovely afternoon.

"It was great to see all the residents, family and community enjoying themselves as well as the entertainment.

"Thank you for your hospitality, as well as the kind contribution from the fun day, it is much appreciated.”
