Sixteen players turned out to play a total of 16 matches with a format of changing partners each round and playing seven games against each pair with a golden point at deuce in each game to add to the excitement and tension.

The players all performed superbly with an amazing 10 of the 16 matches won by the narrowest of 4-3 margins.

At the end of the rounds, the ladies winner was Laura Fretwell, who just pipped Ali Wildt- Pick, and on the men’s side David Owen took the honours ahead of the ever improving runner-up, Richard Cook.

Organiser and club chairman Justin Horobin was delighted with how the evening went and the superb attitude and spirit of the members throughout the tournament.

Afterwards the players all tucked in to Wimbledon-style refreshments, superbly supplied and prepared by two of the club’s regular top volunteers Sarah Culpan and Lisa Thorald.

Off the courts, the major club project of having toilets is well under construction now with Griffin Construction Co making excellent progress that should see the project completed in the next few weeks.

It will be a huge benefit to the club’s seniors and particularly the junior members, who at present have to navigate across two roads to access toilets at the nearby leisure centre.

The block will also include an accessible toilet to once again illustrate the club’s positivity to building an inclusive club within the community.
