Partial updates for Melton borough's Local Plan submitted to government

A key document has been submitted to the government to guide developments across the Melton borough in the coming years.

Melton Borough Council has formally forwarded its Local Plan Partial Update to the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government after feedback was received from residents and stakeholders earlier this year.

An independent Planning Inspector, appointed by the Planning Inspectorate, will review the documents to assess whether the proposed updates meet national planning requirements and if they have been prepared in accordance with legal and procedural standards.

The Local Plan is a statutory long-term planning document prepared by the local planning authority which sets out a strategic vision and framework for future development, land use, and infrastructure within the area.

The partial update does not change the previous plan’s overall strategy for housing in the borough.

It focuses on refining key policies to deliver sustainable growth, supported by appropriate infrastructure, and ensuring the borough is well‑positioned to meet future challenges while protecting the area’s unique character.

Councillor Margaret Glancy, the borough council’s cabinet portfolio holder for governance, environment and regulatory services, said: “Reaching this submission stage is an important achievement for the borough of Melton.

"The update strengthens our ability to plan positively for the future while safeguarding what makes our borough special.

"We look forward to working constructively with the Planning Inspector during the examination process.”

Full details of the partial update are not currently available to view – check online at www.meltonplan.co.uk/lpupdate-examination for further details when they are published on the council’s Melton Local Plan website.
