Leicestershire residents and businesses urged to give views on county priorities

Residents, businesses and communities across Leicestershire are being urged to give their views on which services should be prioritised in the county.

Leicestershire County is running a consultation on local long-term priorities about a draft plan drawn up by County Hall.

It suggests the council should support people to live well and achieve their full potential, keep Leicestershire safe, connected and community-minded and buold a strong economy with capacity to grow.

The plan also states the importance of being efficient, responsive and ready for the future

The future of local government is currently in limbo after the government recently suspended plans to streamline the local structure to create one council for Leicestershire and Rutland and an expanded Leicester City Council.

County Hall says views about the key themes - supporting children and families, helping people live independently and making sure the county council is efficient and ready for the future - are important for the long-term future of the authority.

Dan Harrison, leader of Leicestershire County Council, said: “We’ve already heard back from a range of people telling us their priorities, but we want to hear from more people so we get the broadest range of views we can.

“Your responses really do make a difference – only you can tell us what you want Leicestershire to look like to be a place to live and work in.

“Please take a few minutes to give us your thoughts – it’s never been more important to shape the long-term future of the council and its priorities.”

The consultation closes on Sunday 1 November. Visit www.leicestershire.gov.uk/big-priorities to fill in the survey.
