Police name two men killed in road collision on A606 near Somerby

Police have named two people who died following a collision on the A606 near Somerby on Friday evening.

They were Jak Thomas Cooney (22), of Corby, and 64-year-old Andrew John Taylor, of Barrow upon Soar.

Mr Cooney was driving a blue Ford Mondeo and Mr Taylor a black Jaguar Estate when the incident happened, at 10.45pm.

Both men sustained fatal injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene.

Three women and a man were taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre. in Nottingham.

One of the women, who was a passenger in the Jaguar, remains in a critical but stable condition, and the other three injured people are in a stable condition.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision, which took place about 150 metres to the east of Pickwell Road.

They would like to speak to anyone who saw either of the vehicles being driven beforehand or the collision itself.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact DC 1288 Paul Bingham on 101, quoting incident 760 of April 8.
