Poignant Remembrance displays created across the Melton Mowbray area
As we remember fallen members of our armed forces, people across the Melton area have been creating poignant commemorative displays.
Visitors to St Mary’s Church will see a huge Poppy image created by Melton Yarn Shop and a number of volunteers from countless balls of wool.

It will be displayed during Sunday’s Remembrance service in the church, which forms part of the annual town parade.
The shop posted on its Facebook page: “Thank you to all those that helped by crocheting squares, a huge thank you to Dawn (and Geoff) for all those hours sewing all those squares together.

“I think we lost count of how many balls of Stylecraft Special DK that we used.”
The players and coaches at Melton Mowbray Tennis Club have created a fabulous Remembrance display at their courts off Burton Road.
Kingsway Decorating Centre sponsored the project.
The club has also been selling homemade purple & red poppies for the Royal British Legion charity.

There is a beautiful wartime element to the Heritage Gardens, opposite the Melton Borough Council offices, courtesy of the volunteer-run Melton In Bloom team.
A little wicker Spitfire is now flying over a sky of blue flowers ready in time for Remembrance Sunday.
Meanwhile, at Waltham-on-the-Wolds, an evening of commemorative music, drama, reflections and poems is taking place on Saturday November 14.
The Silence of War, performed by St Peter’s Hill Players, starts at 7pm at St Mary Magdalene Church – call 07709 247849 to get tickets, which cost £8 (or £10 on the door).
