Mum and daughter complete charity walk to support Parkinson's charity

A Melton Mowbray mum and her daughter have raised hundreds of pounds for Parkinson's UK after completing a six-mile charity walk in Nottinghamshire.

Former Melton Times journalist Jan Jackson and her daughter, Jessi, joined around 200 other participants for the Walk for Parkinson's event at Thoresby Park on Saturday.

Jan, who was diagnosed with Parkinson's more than 15 years ago, was determined to take on the challenge to demonstrate the importance of staying active while living with the condition.

She said: "Since being diagnosed, I've learned that staying active is one of the most important ways I can help manage the condition.

"Exercise has played a huge part in helping me stay strong, maintain my independence and keep on top of the challenges that Parkinson's brings.

"Parkinson's is a condition that affects every part of daily life and brings challenges that many people never see."

Walkers at the Nottinghamshire event could choose between a 1.9-mile or 6.1-mile route.

Jan and Jessi opted for the longer challenge, completing the course comfortably.

The Walk for Parkinson's series takes place at venues across the UK throughout the summer.

Last year's Nottinghamshire event raised £22,000 for the charity.

Money raised through the 2026 Walk for Parkinson's events will support Parkinson's UK's Nurse Appeal and the vital work of specialist Parkinson's health and care professionals.

Jan and Jessi, who have raised £350, thanked everyone who donated to their fundraising campaign and those who sent messages of encouragement and support.
