Amelia says wedding day was more nerve-wracking than competing in the Olympics
Melton Mowbray’s Winter Olympics star Amelia Coltman said she was more nervous on her wedding day on Saturday than she had been competing in the Games earlier this year.
Amelia (29) finished ninth in the skeleton event at the Olympics in Milano Cortina in February after an impressive season on the World Cup circuit.
And this weekend she married fiancé, Harry, at St John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, in Melton, at a ceremony attended by family, friends and the entire men’s and women’s Great Britain Olympic skeleton team.
Her mum, Theresa, described the wedding as ‘a fabulous day’, with everyone continuing celebrations with ‘an exquisite wedding breakfast’ at Wymondham Windmill.
She told the Melton Times: “It was a wonderful day and in Amelia’s words ‘the perfect day’, as they now become Mr and Mrs Jones.
“Amelia whispered to her father, as she walked down the aisle, that she was more nervous than she was before her races at the Olympics.”
Among the guests at the wedding at the Thorpe End church was Amelia’s friend and skeleton Team GB team-mate, Matt Weston, who became the first British athlete to win two gold medals at the same Winter Olympics in February. Also present were Amelia’s team-mates from the Games, Tabby Stoecker, who also won a gold, and Freya Tarbit.
Guests enjoyed a hog roast and hours of dancing as the celebrations continued at Wymondham Windmill late into the night.
Amelia posted on social media after the wedding that it had been ‘the best day of our lives’.
