Plans to build five dormer bungalows at a former petrol station site in Bottesford have been given the green light.

Melton Council had received objections from six householders who live near the Grantham Road site, with one of the common concerns being that the bungalows would overlook their properties resulting in loss of privacy.

But the council’s planning committee was told that the distance between the proposed bungalows and neighbouring properties on Fleming Drive was more than the 23 metres usually required as a separation distance.

Committee member Pru Chandler said: “This is a brownfield site waiting to be developed since the petrol station closed. It’s not ideal but there’s a 23-metre separation distance between the properties and there won’t be complaints about the smell of petrol fumes coming from the site in the summer.”

The outline planning application was approved by the committee subject to conditions.
