Plenty of treats to be had at Melton Mowbray's festival of pies and spirits

The latest Melton Mowbray food and drink festival takes place this weekend – with the focus on pies and spirits.

Dozens of producers will be at the Stockyard, on Scalford Road, from 10am to 4pm on Saturday and Sunday for the popular annual Pie/Spirits Fest.

It’s a great event to taste a massive range of pies before deciding which ones to buy.

As well local classics like Melton Mowbray pork pies and Brockleby’s Pies’ British Pie Awards supreme champion Blue & Moo Pies there will also sweet and savoury ones, gluten-free versions as well as veggie and vegan pies.

Attendees can also go to talks and demonstrations in the Pie Theatre, including a history of pies, favourite recipes and spirits sessions.

There will also be workshops for children and adults including pie-making sessions.

SpiritsFest includes a whole range of spirits, gin, rum, whisky, vodka, as well as flavoured spirits.

There will also be a wide range of stands selling complimentary goods as well as hot food and drinks.

We ran a competition in last week’s Melton Times offering five lucky readers the chance to win a pair of tickets.

The winners, who correctly answered the question to name a botanical used in the production of a spirit such as gin or vodka, were drawn at random.

They are: Dylan Pugh, of Queensway, Melton Mowbray; Claire Wood, of Hebden Walk, Grantham; Michelle Meakin, of Asfordby Hill; Sharon Dilkes, of Gamble Drive, Melton Mowbray; Adam Partridge, of Beaconsfield Road, Melton Mowbray.

Youngsters aged under 16 get in free with an adult and no dogs are allowed.
