Melton park playground closes for a week for essential renovations

Parents are advised that the playground in Melton Mowbray’s Play Close Park will be temporarily closed for a week from today (Monday).

Work teams are carrying out a programme of essential renovations and upgrades on the site and the equipment with the aim of reopening it to children and their families on Monday August 3 at the latest.

Melton Mowbray Town Estate, which owns and manages the playground, recognises it is a difficult time to close it at a time when children are on their school holidays but stresses it is important work.

General ‘wear-and-tear’ will be fixed on play equipment and it will all be painted to give the area a bright and refreshed look.

There will also be safety upgrades made, including ‘replacing the porous rubber safety membranes under the rides and swings to ensure long-term drainage, cushioning, and durability’.

A spokesperson for the Town Estate said: “To carry out these works safely and efficiently, the main playground will be temporarily closed for one week starting Monday, July 27.

“We fully appreciate that a summer closure is an inconvenience, and our contractors will be working as quickly as possible to complete the improvements and reopen the gates safely.

"The surrounding parklands and green spaces will remain fully accessible to the public throughout the week.

“Thank you for your patience and support as we invest in keeping Melton’s play spaces safe, modern, and enjoyable for everyone.

"We know how popular the park is – especially at this time of year – so we are working hard to get the work completed as quickly and safely as possible.”
