Melton's netball club boosted by having all teams playing at a single venue again

Melton Mowbray’s netball club say it is a huge boost to have all of its teams training at the same venue again.

When the borough council reduced capacity at the sports hall at Melton Sports Village two years ago as part of a major revamp of facilities, Melton Marvels Netball Club was forced into splitting its junior and senior sessions across different sites in the town.

But the club has now announced that all players will train on Wednesday evenings at John Ferneley College in Melton, improving the connections between its various teams.

Club chairman, Mary Copley, said: “Having all of our sessions back under one roof is a really positive development for Melton Marvels.

"The disruption over recent years has meant that different parts of our club have had to operate separately, so we’re looking forward to having everyone together again.

“There will be some changes to the way our Wednesday evening is structured, but the benefits of having all our training sessions at the same venue will be huge.

"It will strengthen the club community and make it much easier for our members to support and learn from each other."

The club is also excited about the continued growth of men’s and mixed netball, with more opportunities emerging for players to compete at a national level.

Members of Melton Marvels are already taking advantage of these opportunities through England Mixed & Men’s Netball’s Association (EMMNA) competitions.

The club is also proud to see its head coach, Jenny Smith, take on the same role with the Men’s Unicorn LGBTQIA+ team, which is based in London and is competing at the EMMNA Championships at Loughborough this month. The tournament will see four of the Melton Marvels men playing in three different teams, with the club aiming to attract enough men to enter their own team in the future.

New training times for the Marvels are as follows – 5.30-6.30pm minis - primary school age; 6.30–7.30pm juniors - secondary school age; 7.30–8.30pm senior ladies; 8.30–9.30pm mixed & men’s.
